Julia Owens was born in California, grew up in Florida, and currently lives in Philadelphia, PA. She received her BFA from the University of Central Florida in 2009, specializing in drawing and printmaking. Recently she has expanded her practice to incorporate comedy writing, improv, performance art, and curation. As a community artist she is seeking collaborations in mental health, free play, youth work, and social justice. She has collaborated with Mural Arts, Tree House Books, and Jubilee Arts. She has shown her work in Brooklyn and Baltimore. In her visual art practice she depicts her personal connections with everyday objects through the use of jazzy patterns, commercial slogans, and private jokes with herself.
